Il vicepresidente della Dark-Sky Switzerland, René Kobler ha ricevuto il premio Galileo, che è la massima onorificenza europea assegnata annualmente dalla International Dark-Sky Association (IDA). Il premio è stato consegnato durante il quarto “simposio europeo per la protezione del cielo notturno” svoltosi in settembre a Parigi.

Il premio è stato assegnato a Kobler per i suoi sforzi effettuati a favore della protezione del cielo notturno. Infatti da diversi anni Kobler si impegna per la lotta all’inquinamento luminoso, egli ha svolto diversi studi riguardanti le conseguenze dell’inquinamento luminoso e le contromisure. Kobler collabora attivamente con i Cantoni e i Comuni svizzeri che vogliono impegnarsi a preservare il cielo notturno.

René Kobler, vice-president of Dark-Sky Switzerland, has won the 2004 IDA Europe Galileo award for his tireless efforts in the protection of night skies and controlling light pollution. The Galileo Award is given once per year by the International Dark-Sky Association for outstanding achievements in Europe.
Kobler is originally an architect by profession and was confronted first with light pollution while photographing the night-sky in the Swiss Alps. He decided to focus entirely on light pollution and quit his job to study environmental engineering and science to obtain a postgraduate degree in this field.
He is currently building an expert center for light pollution at the Institute of Environmental Technology in the Canton of Basel. The aim is also to better understand the multidisciplinary aspects of the effects of light pollution and to further develop strategies for its prevention.
His ability to analyze problems to the base, find constructive solutions, and to communicate them accordingly wins him ‘allies, not enemies‘.
